Birkdale North
School Newsletter

Tena Koutou,

I hope this newsletter finds you all well and the rainy weather is not dampening your spirits! We have been having an exciting few weeks with lots of activities and learning experiences happening! It is good to take some time to recap events with your children and find out what sparked their imagination or memory.  You might want to talk about the museum trip our junior syndicate went on last week or ask about the rocket man programme the seniors are involved in. This has caused a lot of excitement! And we know that if learning is exciting and enjoyable children are like sponges – soaking up everything they see and do!

We are delighted to have Marion back full time in the office this week. We are so glad she is back and feeling so much better after her operation. Welcome back Marion, we missed you! I would like to say a big thank you to both Taryn and Annette who stepped up while Marion was recovering at home. I would also like to say a thank you to all of you for your patience when coming into the office, we got there but we were possibly a little slower!

A few farewells

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brooke Martin who has left us in the capacity of teacher aide. Brooke is one of our very valued parents who is always there to help and support us. We miss Brooke as our teacher aide but she is still managing with our Kickstart breafast programme and is in and out of the school with her tamariki. Good luck with your new ventures Brooke!

Nicole Stephens from room 9, l’Étoile du Nord will also be leaving us at the end of the term. Nicole and her partner have decided to move back to the UK to be with family. Thank you Nicole and we wish you well in the UK.

Enrolment at BNS

From the 1st July 2021 enrolment at BIrkdale North School is governed by a Ministry of Education approved enrolment scheme. Having an enrolment scheme means we have a zoned area, Students living within the Birkdale North School zone have automatic right of entry under the scheme. Students living outside of the Birkdale North School zone will have another school that is reasonably convenient to their place of residence that they will be entitled to attend.

We are awaiting responses to our applications for special programmes for both Ngā Muka and  l’Étoile du Nord. This will allow us more students to enrol at BNS out of zone for those classes. As soon as we have the applications accepted we will inform you and let you know what processes and steps need to be taken for enrolment.

Matariki Festival Friday 2nd July

The Matariki festival is coming up soon. We need lots of support on the day and will let you know the times we are performing as soon as we know.

Fortunately it is being held at Birkdale Intermediate this year which means we can go up as a school to support our Kapa Haka group. It takes five minutes to walk up. Perfect!

There will be information for our KapaHaka parents coming home soon and a general letter for other classes asking for permission and some parent help to walk up to the intermediate.

We have also booked a table to continue fundraising for our Kapa Haka uniforms. We have bought them but need about another $1000 to cover the full cost. If you are able to help please let us know. We are selling small lollie bags which means making them up the day before and selling on the day

We will also be holding our Matariki disco that evening, 6pm – 7.30pm in our school hall. More information will be coming home soon.

Wacky Hair Day – Friday 25th June

Come along to school with the craziest, wackiest, funniest hair style you can think of.
Please bring a non perishable grocery item (can include shampoo, soap, toilet paper etc) to donate to the Beach Haven/Birkdale Community Project for the food bank based at Beach Haven house.
Thank you for your support!

Kick Start Breakfast

As  mentioned before Brooke is doing a fantastic job.  We have lots of Wheetbix, milk and bread as we are lucky enough to have sponsors who who provide them. We supply the spread and jam for toast, if you would like to donate a jar of jam or a tub of spread that would be gratefully recieved.

The club is getting bigger and the children are loving having a chat and eating breakfast together.  If you are able to help out please also let us know. We already have some volunteeers but a few more would be great.
